HELP - I NEED a 3D Artist to display FREE at City Hall on October 22, 2015. any Takers

Hi All,

I need a 3D artist to display in a case at City Hall in Encinitas, CA for October 22 - December 3, 2015.

We are not able to display jewelry, but can take artwork that is no heavier then 15 Lbs. for the glass shelving.  The case is enclosed and is 9' feet in width and 4.5' feet high with a depth of 12" glass shelves.

Large Sculpture from Small Kilns

A 2 day hands on ceramic workshop led by sculptor Cheryl Tall, which will demonstrate rapid coil building, use of modular sections to make a larger sculpture, and once firing techniques with oxides and terra sigillata.  We will focus on how to create a large form in clay, inspired by images from folk art and mythology.  Oct. 1-2, 2015, 10:30-4:30 each day

The workshop includes a presentation of sectional sculpture, demonstrations, and hands-on participation. Each student will sculpt one form out of clay, which will be bisque fired when dry for later pick up by participant. The fee includes a two-day class, and one bisque firing for one sculpture. Bring a lunch.

Two day workshop fee is $220.  Glaze workshop available on Tuesdays, $40.

Steve Webb - "Adventures and mis-adventures of the common dog."

Exhibit dates: September 11 – October 23, 2015

Through strong brush strokes and vivid color, the artworks portray whimsical still life, abstract, animal and landscape paintings.

"The need to make pictures started as a child with drawing. At the University it went to more advanced expression with more advanced materials, but always with drawing as the core. At first the focus seemed to be the figure and different versions of landscape. Today it's just draw and paint and see where it goes."

The series "art for the common dog"  emerged as a counter to our daily lives, chronicling the adventures and misadventures of our "best friends". It has become a preoccupation with the overall goal being to just lighten it up a bit and introduce a bit of levity into what is often a stressful experience (life).  "I hope you see it the same way."

Kirsten Francis exhibits: A Thousand Cuts: Paper Collage and Portraits, Encinitas Community Center

Leucadia Artist, Kirsten Francis pencils, a sharp blade and glue to create unique portraits and is exhibiting her new work in a solo show, A Thousand Cuts: Paper Collage and Portraits, at the Encinitas Community Center Art Gallery September 4- November 4, 2015.

Artist Reception is Saturday, September 26, 1-4 pm The sharp blade of an x-acto knife is just as important in Kirsten Francis’ work as a pencil or paint. Francis begins by drawing expressive figures of people she knows on paper. Then she starts using a sharp blade, cutting out her drawings and as well as found images. The works become more detailed and complex as she cuts and glues together many different images, shapes and textures, from magazine photographs to vintage bird illustrations.


“I was a woodblock printmaker for years, carving images into plywood and printing overlapping layers of color. Looking at my work now, I can see I still use similar techniques. I cut away, then add, and do it again, creating layers and adding complexity.” Francis says. Francis studied Printmaking at Mesa College and the Pacific Northwest College of Art. She has had solo shows at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, Bakersfield, CA, the Center on Contemporary Art, Seattle, WA and Encinitas Library, Encinitas, CA. Her work has also been exhibited at the Athenaeum, La Jolla, CA, the Oceanside Museum of Art, Oceanside, CA, and the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego, CA.

Art Piece Solicitation for the Encinitas Environmental Award Program - $500 Commission

ENCINITAS ARTISTS  - $500 Commission

The Environmental Commission of the City of Encinitas is seeking two (2) artists. Each will design and fabricate one Art Piece.

PROJECT PURPOSE
The City of Encinitas Environmental Commission is holding its Environmental Award Program (EAP) with 2 categories: 1) individual person/non-profit and 2) business. The 2 winners of the EAP will each be presented with the Art Piece as recognition for their outstanding environmental achievements. This Art Piece Solicitation is to commission 2 artists - each to create an environmentally-themed piece of art to be presented along with a Certificate to EAP 2015 winners. The Art Piece must be substantial, high-profile and able to be proudly displayed as a unique and notable piece. The Artist MUST include a sketch and description of THE proposed Art Piece in their proposal.

THE PROJECT

Two artists will be chosen. Each artist will create (must be original artist work) and deliver one environmentally-themed art piece. The commission amount is $500 per artist and will be the full compensation. Payment occurs when art is complete, delivered and accepted.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

A. Candidates MUST be Encinitas residents. Validation will be by street address.

B. The artwork can be two-dimensional or three-dimensional, no more than twelve inches in any dimension.

C. The completed artwork must be complete and delivered no later than October 8, 2015.

D. The City of Encinitas will have all rights to use representations of the art in promotions and public information materials, and the artists will be credited. The EAP Award recipients will own the art.

E. Art must not have been previously shown in public, at any public venue.

PROPOSAL

· Multiple submissions by a single artist are allowed, but two different artists will be selected and no one artist will win both commissions.

· Your proposal must include your name, address and contact information submitted on a separate sheet attached to your submission.

· Proposals also MUST include in writing and drawings 1) proposed materials and media, 2) a rendering of your proposed piece, 3) dimensions of the piece; and 4) how it responds to the Encinitas environmental-theme. Your text need not be typed, but it must be legible.

· You may optionally include your resume or CV - or your experience using the media proposed, and your history meeting deadlines on a separate sheet. However, extensive experience in art is not necessary – new or young artists are encouraged to propose.

· Submissions are limited to 3 pages, 8 ½” x 11” single sided sheets, which includes optional items.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The selection criteria include but is not limited to:

· Completeness of submission (see proposal requirements above)

· Communication or depiction of the environmental-theme – inspirational, innovative

· Proposed media (materials/media must be permanent – not ephemeral)

· Suitability for display on wall or desktop (see size criteria above)

· Artist's experience with proposed media and meeting deadlines

Encinitas Highlands Painting Classes with Richard Hawk, A "NEW" format

 After 12 wonderful years of teaching painting in WORKSHOPS, I am doing something new - a CLASS format. The instruction and interaction with painters is much the same, but here's the difference: instead of 2 to 4 days of concentrated study, it's spread out over time.

First, a number of people over the years have expressed a desire for regular, ongoing painting instruction with me - a place to go and paint on a regular schedule, to 'keep your head in the game', and be constantly reminded and refreshed... on the methods and principles of free, intuitive painting... painting with vigor and confidence... good design principles... enjoyable techniques.

Second, frankly it's a little more manageable with my schedule right now... it's just more comfortable than the concentrated blitzkrieg intensity of a workshop - if you have taken a workshop with me, you know I pour a lot of my guts into it, and ask a lot of you - we're all exhilarated but pretty spent at the end!

“Deconstructing a Film Score” workshop, with Emmy-winning film composer Larry Groupé, OSC

All proceeds from this event will be used to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors (not just from Oceanside but from throughout North County San Diego) pursing artistic and performing arts degrees, and to organize more quality events in this city. “Deconstructing a Film Score” workshop by Emmy-winning film composer Larry Groupé will take place as part of 5th annual Oceanside International Film Festival from 1:00 pm to 2:25 pm, Saturday, August 15, at the Community Rooms of Oceanside Public Library, downtown branch, 330 N Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054 (across the street from Star Theatre and during the break from Star Theatre screenings).

The workshop is a presentation about the artistic and dramatic process of creating original music for motion pictures. It is designed for participants from all musical walks of life looking to augment their knowledge of the field and enhance their compositional skills in the unique art of writing music to picture. It also covers the challenges of both obtaining business opportunities in the entertainment field and then executing the task through a work process. Q&A with the audience will be part of the discussion.

A graduate of the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific, Larry Groupé went on to earn his Masters of Music in Composition at the University of California at San Diego. His work credits are numerous. Larry created the score for Straw Dogs directed by Rod Lurie starring James Marsden, Kate Bosworth and Alexander Skarsgård. He also composed the score for Nothing but the Truth starring Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon and Alan Alda. He wrote the score for The Contender starring Joan Allen, Gary Oldman and Jeff Bridges. The Contender received two Academy® Award nominations. He composed the music for Mike Binder's comedy series, The Mind of the Married Man, on HBO, as well as Man About Town starring Ben Affleck. Larry also enjoyed special recognition for his score of Deterrence, a doomsday thriller starring Kevin Pollack and Timothy Hutton. Larry has two Emmy awards to his credit for best documentary score Jonas Salk: Personally Speaking, and Residue a short subject film about the US early involvement in Cambodia. He was also nominated for a primetime Emmy as composer of best original score for ABC's drama series, Line of Fire. His fourth most recent Emmy® Award nomination is for Best Original Score for the feature film “Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story”.

Job Opportunity with San Diego County Fair

The San Diego County Fair is entertaining inquires for the position of assistant coordinator for the 2016 Student Showcase Exhibit.

The position would be to work with the coordinator to organize and the student showcase exhibit.

1. To promote the Student Showcase Exhibit, 7^th grade to Community College, to the public schools, private schools, charter schools and home school students.  Encourage administrator’s teachers students and community of the County of San Diego to participate in the exhibit with student entries, demonstrations.
2. Communicate with the exhibit department staff (especially your office assistant) regarding any ideas, needs or issues concerning your department.  Ask questions if you don’t know the answer to something!
3. Take direction and guidance from supervisors.
4. Provide excellent customer service to your exhibitors and the fair going public and demand that your employees do so as well.
5. Be a team player!  All our efforts combined make this one of the greatest fairs in the nation.
6. Keep a copy of all correspondence, records, notes, judges’ lists, donor’s lists, etc. in your designated storage area in the exhibits office or with your department assistant.
7. Attend scheduled exhibit department meetings.
8. Schedule regular office hours.
9. Help in obtaining qualified judges.
10. Adhere to deadlines and procedures.
11. Assist in ordering necessary supplies.
12. Assist in soliciting donated awards from individuals, guilds, businesses, etc.
13. Assist in hiring, and supervise employees for your department.
14. Stay within budget limitations. Always obtain a PO before purchasing items. 
15. Assist supervising the setting up the exhibit floor, receiving, judging, display/presentation and return of exhibits, following prescribed procedures.
16. Serve to assist the coordinator at the fairgrounds during the entire operation of the Fair and be a qualified assistant present during any absence of the supervisor.  Provide department work schedule to the Exhibit Manager or Exhibit Supervisor prior to June 5.
17. End of the Fair housekeeping-organizing, packing and keep inventory of supplies and display items.  Returning your exhibit space to the condition it was in when you received it. 
18. Contribute to submitting the end of fair reports by July 15 to the Exhibit Manager.
