Encinitas 101 Mainstreet Association presents "Dancers, Dogs, and other Dazzlers", a solo exhibition by local artist Darlene Katz. This exhibit combines her series of paintings of dancers and dogs and other things beginning with "D" (warning: if you try hard enough, everything can begin with D), highlighting her extensive work capturing unique moments in time, ranging from thought provoking to just plain comedic.

An artist Reception will be held on Thursday, August 7 , 5:30-8:00 pm at the Encinitas 101 Mainstreet Association offices located at 818 S. Coast Hwy 101. The public is invited to the reception which will take place during the First Thursdays in Encinitas event in August, with free light refreshments and wonderful art. Darlene Katz is an award winning artist, born and raised in Syracuse, NY, now based in Southern California. Darlene's award winning work is displayed in Southern California galleries and national juried shows, as well as in private and corporate collections. Darlene's inspiration comes from her travels as well as everyday scenes. She has created a series of oil paintings for each subject she paints, which highlight her versatility with color and value, as well as subject matter. To this end, Darlene paints landscapes, figures and portraits, as well as animals and still life. She enjoys being technically proficient without losing the freshness of her painting, no matter what the subject. She does not limit herself to one particular approach in her paintings, but her unique style is recognizable in all of her work.

Please contact Darlene Katz for more information. Phone: 760-635-2585, email: darlene@studiokatz.com or website: www.studiokatz.com.

Howard Purnell, Sketching & Etching Today Opening Reception

July 17-August 28, Howard Purnell, Separate Environments Explored. Sketching and Etching.
Opening reception today:  5-7pm at Civic Center Gallery, City Hall, 505 S. Vulcan Avenue, Encinitas, CA 92024. (650) 633-2600.

The compositions are filled with a love of design, contrast and movement and have clarity of subject matter or focal point. “To develop the story, I create a sense of design within that will lead you around the image. Ever changing contrasts create the mood and the feelings in my black and white works which often lead to nocturnal art.”

I am an active rancher. I have surfed all over the United States. These aspects of my life have always been my love and adventure..the inspirations of my art.

As a fourth generation artist I have always been inspired by the art happening around me. I was read to almost every night and absorbed those great illustrations within. It only made sense every picture tells a story.

The illustrations. The illustrators, N.C. Wyeth, Howard Pyle, Norman Rockwell were all inspirations to follow.

In Texas I studied at Sam Houston State Univ., later at the university of Texas. I moved to California to be closer to a stronger ocean and discovered a printmaking class. I was hooked. I am printmaker. An etcher. I work with linocuts. As a person whom loves black and white, I always have a scratch board in the making. Not a printmaking technique, but a one of a kind drawing.

I have been blessed to have studied under three very knowledgeable, inspirational men..

Russell Baldwin, Frank Jones, and Bill Kelly, owner of Brighten Press. I have won

numerous awards, and have shown my work here,Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, and Florida.

I so understand the need to create. I do it for myself. Art is what makes us human. I believe even without a medium, living a good life others would model themselves after, you are art.

SPOTLIGHT ON CHERYL EHLERS -ZOOINITAS

ZOOINITAS:  I want to extend a very special "thank you" to "all" the artists, sponsors, donors and supporters of this exhibition.  I want to share the joy I have for the efforts put forth in support of Art and for the Rancho Coastal Humane Society, Safehouse Program.

One year ago in August, I  started selecting very specific artists for this display and it certainly was not easy.  Out of 31 requests it was narrowed down to 16 fabulously talented and incredibly driven individuals.  All professional in numerous fields, and with some with amazing resumes.
Collectively, their accomplishments are too vast to detail, but if you have the chance to meet the artists on July 26, 1-4pm at the opening reception, you will find they are very complex and talented. Visit www.zooinitas.zohosites.com and read about them, and view the video: http://youtu.be/H_QY2O9Fq8M

It has been a pleasure curating this exhibit, coordinating the auction and spreading the word to catch attention for the artists and the RCHS.  We hope that you will join us Saturday, July 26, between 1-4pm at the Encinitas Library located at 540 Cornish Dr. in Encinitas.

We are offering something for everyone; art, silent auction, pet adoptions, toy drop off, art demonstration, live music and a wonderful reception.

To all my fellow artists I cannot express enough the "gratitude for your positive attitudes, dedication and commendatory" in supporting Zooinitas efforts for a great cause, the RCHS. It has been a wonderful to be able to bring this to the public.

Thank you to: Adele Richert, Bobbi Harrington, Brian Batemen, Bruce Stewart, Debra Saum, Francine Filsinger, Gary Johnson, Joan Hansen, Krista Timberlake, Linda Luisi, Mo McGee, Stephen Frank Gary, Terry Oshrin, Thomas Thomas and Tish Wynne, who proudly represent the animals on the planet, and are looking forwarding to sharing their experiences in painting each piece.

Join us and dare to enter the jungles of Encinitas with Zooinitas on Saturday, Free to the public.  Let's go "jungle Boogie"

Respectfully,
