Join the Allant Trio at the Music by the Sea Concerts, Friday, June 20, 7:30pm

The ALLANT TRIO is one of the most exciting young ensembles today. Winners of the 2013 Beverly Hills Auditions, the trio was formed in 2010 at the Juilliard School in New York, of which all three are graduates. Pianist Beth Nam, violinist Anna Park, and cellist Alina Lim have each won numerous awards and achievements as soloists, as a trio, they received the Madrigano Entrepreneurship Grant at The Juilliard School. Most recently, they gave an acclaimed debut recital at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall.

The trio has been invited to participate in prestigious festivals such as the Yehudi Menuhin

Chamber Music Festival in San Francisco, a residency at The Banff Centre in Canada, and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in Connecticut. Named semifinalists at the Young Concert Artist audition in New York and the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in Norway, the Allant Trio has been active throughout the New York City metro area and Southern California. They are on a West Coast tour.

Artists Sought for Inaugural Art Show Vista Optimist Club’s Summerfest

The Vista Optimist Club’s Summerfest 2014 taking place on August 9, 2014 from 5:30-10:30 pm at the Club’s 600 Optimist Way facility will add a new dimension to its popular  fundraiser featuring music, food, and drink: an Art Show coordinated by ArtBeat on Main Street.

ArtBeat seeks participation in two categories: 1) juried art vendors, $65 for a 10’X10’ booth; and 2) donations of artwork or services from artists for the silent auction. ArtBeat owner Kait Matthews says the partnership meshes well with her co-op gallery’s intent to give back to the community. “As a Vista business celebrating its second anniversary this month, I want to do my part, not only for art, but for other businesses and for our community’s quality of life. The Optimist Club of Vista brings community, culture and art together, so this event is a perfect fit.”  Art vendors are sure to attract the attention of the more than 750 guests expected to attend the art show, which will be attractively laid out in a 4,000-square-foot space. Optimist volunteers will help unload/load artwork. Tables, tablecloths and easels are provided.

In addition to the on-site exposure to themselves and their work, artists will enjoy substantial publicity. They will be highlighted in the event catalogue and on diverse promotional platforms, including social media.  As an extra bonus, Matthews says, “The works of participating Summerfest artists will be displayed at a special ArtBeat reception and month-long exhibit in 2015.”

She believes, “With 15% of each sale benefiting the Vista Optimists, the Summerfest Art Show gives artists an opportunity to showcase and sell their work while furthering the good works conducted by the upbeat Optimists, whose worldwide mission is to bring out the best in kids.”

Entrants submit three JPEG files of original work. All styles of artwork and photography where digital processes of any kind were integral to the creation of the images are acceptable. Video stills are acceptable. This call is international, open to all geographical locations.

Forty artists and photographers will be selected! The selected winners receive one print up to 24x36 on museum quality paper to be shown in an international group exhibition in our gallery. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artists. Multiple entries are permitted, separate entry fee required for each set of three images submitted.

Congratulations to Terry Weaver... what a beautiful day today for dedicating years of work to joint venture this wonder "welcome" signage for Encinitas! It is so very colorful!

A bit about Terry's part of the design... (Tree Top Terry)

"My first task after being awarded the Downtown Encinitas Streetscape project was to create 16 images for approval by the City’s 3 member Arts subpanel. My directive was to capture the essence of Encinitas. So I focused on the City’s gems; Moonlight Beach, La Paloma, Swamies, The Boathouse, etc. I began this process in April 2001, creating 28 watercolor pencil images. I returned to Maui in May to work on my drawings. I flew back to Encinitas to sign my formal contract on September 6. While water-coloring my images the morning of September 11, 2001 I received a call from my mother telling me to turn on the news. Just as I did, I witnessed the second plane hitting the north tower. This image seemed surreal. I dedicated the Woodie, as my 911 Memorial- making the surfboards red, white and blue. To me, that Woodie mosaic will forever represent the day our world changed.

The subpanel approved 8 images I am to move forward on. Although going green is popular now, I’ve been a green artist for as long as I can remember. I had been visiting tile stores collecting scrap tiles from dumpsters and asking the companies to represent me for my mosaic build out. The company that offered the most help was Oceanside Glass and Tile. A sales/marketing representative named Dana called me to offer me some of their reject tiles. My father and I collected boxes and boxes of the beautiful glass tiles. This was my first time using glass tiles, and wow was it a game changer. I created glass tile skies and ceramic tile mix on the mosaics and blended them with multi-color grouts. This mix of glass tile and ceramic gives the mosaics another dimension that I had never seen before. I was excited to perfect it in my new City mosaics. This style of mosaic became a new design of mine that I still use today, 13 years later. With supplies in hand and my direction firmly in my head, I was well on my way for the next 6 months making and installing these fine art mosaic images.

Back on Maui:

I am still creating my collection of “Marine Mosaics” Here on Maui at my Polanui Art studio. I’ve been getting materials together for my mom and pup whales as well as my spotted eagle ray which will be a 6 foot mosaic. These mosaics will be lit up by LED making them an emotional and education piece.
