Puppets on Parade - Garit Imhoff, Artist Reception, May 4, 2-4pm

Garit Imhof, doll maker, puppeteer, arts advocate, professional clown and more is hosting an artist reception, May 2, 2014, between 2-4pm at the Encinitas Community Art Gallery located 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encintas, 92024.

The display is filled with some life size soft sculptured dolls, the product of many years making window dressings, exhibits for stores, museums and for animated films. Character, portrait dolls and patches have been commissioned over the years. These puppets have been purchased by such prominent buyers at Vincent Price, Clint Eastwood and others and have been enjoyed by many.

In addition, he manages to provide a host of arts related programs to communities and is currently at the Encinitas Boys and Girls Club sharing his talents and experience working with “Shadow Puppets” for enrichment programs in the Encinitas Union School District and the Encinitas Boys and Girls Club. The children made their own puppets for performances of Aesop Fables as well as original stories, which are scattered around this display and were created as examples

Shadow Plays are an ancient theater tradition originally from India that spread through many countries in the near and far east. The flat stick puppets are used on a cloth screen which is back lit creating shadows that are sometimes translucent. I studied puppetry in Indonesia where the tradition is particularly rich and where the puppets are elaborately carved and decorated. They are considered sacred and tell religious stories. The Chinese tradition is more for popular entertainment while in Turkey and Greece the characters and situations are comic.

Stop by the Encinitas Community Art Gallery or visit his website at zimbeat.com. For additional information call Garit at garit@cox.net.

Kenneth A Picerne, Artist Outreach Project Grant Re-opened in North County

Artists "apply" for a fabulous program and give back to your community! The North County Areas had been re-opened for artists!

The Artist Outreach Project (AOP) gives experienced artists a chance to share their passion and expertise with people who might not otherwise have opportunities to enjoy the benefits of quality arts programs. Click on a link for more information.

The Foundation is well aware of the enormous therapeutic and educational contribution artists can make to those in-need within their communities. Artists often do not receive the support necessary to allow them to make this contribution. The Foundation also recognizes that significant therapeutic and educational impact rarely occurs in short "hit-and-run" programs. Therefore, the Foundation has developed a year-long program that provides support for experienced artists who are motivated to contribute to their community.

Through the Artist Outreach Project, The Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation awards grants to accomplished visual, performing and literary artists, age 55 and older. These grants are intended to support the artists' efforts to give back to their community. Artists awarded the grant spend six to eight hours a week with an underserved group served by a non-profit organization of their choice, sharing their talent in arts-based services that are both educational and therapeutic.

Application Information: The Foundation will begin accepting applications on May 1, 2014. The application deadline is Thursday July 31, 2014. In the meantime, artists interested the Artist Outreach Project are encouraged to contact the Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation to discuss plans for an Artist Outreach application in 2014.

Visit http://www.picernefoundation.org/ or contact Victor Nelson, the Foundation Executive Director, if you are an artist with questions about the Artist Outreach Project, if you represent a nonprofit organization interested in hosting a visual, performing, or literary artist, or if you are interested in starting an Artist Outreach Project in your own community. Mr. Nelson can be reached at 949-267-1517 or via e-mail by clicking e-mail contact or the contact link at the top of the page.

About the Instructor, Char Cee
After After extensive study with many prominent artists in my native Southern California, Mexico, and abroad, I have blended combinations of styles into my own unique form of expression. I have explored various art mediums over the past 40 years, and feel that each has its own special qualities to be used for various effects.
An “on location” painter, I image the world around me into abstract plein-air paintings. My passionate ability to convey feelings and emotions into abstract landscapes, flowers, and people have made me one of the more interesting and innovative artists in San Diego.

My philosophy is that any art form should set off the viewer’s feelings that have been hidden away. With the wind in my hair and the sun on my face, the artwork takes its own course — driven by the environment.  Visit charcee.com for more information on the artist.

ARTBUZZ1 SEEKS Monthly Photography for Newsletter

Hello Creative Souls,
Last month I was seeking a colorful photo for the front of the the ARTBUZZ1 and wanted to depict Spring.

I came across, Billie Day and her photography which caught my eye, (you can see why).  She not only loves color but is a vibrant person herself and a wonderful contributor to the arts. This indeed depicts the theme of Spring!

So I thought, hum....... maybe some other artists might like to be part of the ARTBUZZ1 community?

If you are interested, I like monthly themes and would like to collect them for May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.  Keeping this simply, I will always place credits to the artworks received and it goes out to over 1800  artists and organizations.

Simple... just send them to me and if chosen, you will be posted!  I like "color, emotion" and what makes a person smile in a blink of an eye.

Send them to artbuzz1@gmail.com and lets have some fun!
