Five artists will be selected to exhibit during Lux Art Institute’s ART COUTURE event and given the opportunity to submit an art piece for competition. Winner will be featured at this year’s Fashion Week San Diego. Finalists will be featured June 23rd during our ART COUTURE event and will be exhibited in our studios.

CALL FOR ARTISTS - Art on 30th, San Diego

Summer in the City 

...and the living is easy. If you love San Diego summers, this is the exhibition for you. All art that resonates with the "feeling" of our fair city is eligible. Anything that says San Diego summer for you: the fair, a snow cone, the beach, the sun, the flowers, the hot, rich colors, cool jazz, wet dogs, late sunsets, the races - you get the idea! The exhibition will be juried by Robin Sanford Roberts, Scenic Designer, Artist and Professor at USD. The exhibition runs from June 3 to July 1, 2017.

All art must be ready-to-hang. Art pieces must be outfitted with two D-rings affixed to the back of your work (The gallery utilizes a wire hanging system).

Entry fee is $35 (for 1-2 pieces).
Submit art at gallery: May 18th–27th.
Submission deadline: Saturday, May 27th by 4pm.

CALL FOR ARTISTS, Encinitas "Shop Small Saturday", November 28th, E101 Mainstreet

Hello Artists,

E101 Mainstreet would like to invite you to participate in our Shop Small Saturday event on November 28 in Downtown Encinitas. We are in the process of creating a year round campaign to encourage our community to shop small and to shop local.

This event will feature local merchants in our downtown as they offer BIG discounts that day in conjuncture with American Express' Shop Small Saturday.

We also wish to promote local art during this event and that is where you come in! We will be reserving an empty lot along Highway 101 to feature local art for sale. It will be much like a mini art bazaar with live music and live art demonstrations.

E101 Gallery to Host “Fantastic Aspect” Exhibition by Patricia Lizon

The E101 Gallery will feature artist Patricia Lizon’s “Fantastic Aspect” exhibition of surreal abstract cartoons from January 28 to February 26. These boldly colored, limited edition archival prints bring to life "characters" who sometimes emote alone or interact with others. Each image creates a subliminal psychological space which is primal. What occurs is intuitively recognizable as universal and organic; felt in the body. The artist begins by clearing her mind and making honest automatic writings; many line drawings in quick succession, unconscious of intent. After such a session, only those marks which speak to an emotional space are retained and scanned into Photoshop where the mood is elaborated with the addition of color and textures. The viewer is invited to bring his/her life to interact with the art and come to personal conclusions regarding the primitive narrative depicted which is nebulous as the last dream which fades as one wakes. Occasionally, words are included to indicate what the "characters" say to the artist.

Patricia is a graduate of San Diego State in Painting and Printmaking and has worked as a freelance Graphic Designer. In the past, she has been in numerous group shows in San Diego and Seattle, more recently was a featured artist for Gap Toothed Madness Online Gallery and was Woman’s Caucus of the Arts San Diego first place winner of the online exhibit “Express Yourself”.

Opening Reception will be held on Thursday, February 5 from 5pm-8pm during the First Thursdays event at the E101 Gallery (818 S. Coast Hwy 101). Free light refreshments. Come one and all!

La Costa Canyon High - SPRING CRAFT FAIR - Call to Artists, Vendors

Hello Vendors!

La Costa Canyon High School is holding a SPRING CRAFT FAIR just before MOTHER'S DAY. The fair will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2014, 10am-2pm. This is a Fundraiser for the La Costa Canyon High School Grad Night 2014!!

We are looking for demo/presenters, entertainers, produce, flowers, crafts, artists, businesses and food (hot, cold and packaged) at this event. The booth fee for this event is ONLY $20 and must be paid in advance. Each vendor is responsible to bring and set up a 10x10 canopy, any tables for displays, chairs, etc. This will be held at an outdoor venue.

We are marketing the SPRING CRAFT FAIR to the entire school community and our local La Costa community through social and traditional media outlets, as well as, signage, flyers and posters in the school neighborhood. We expect a 1,000 neighbors, students, teachers, coaches, and parents to attend.

Presented by the San Dieguito Art Guild's 20th Annual Mother's Day Art & Garden Tour shares two days chock full of exciting art pieces on display and for purchase.Bring your mom (or your friends) to explore this year's amazing collection of distinctive North County gardens.

This year's eight unique gardens are easily accessible in a day and feature the artwork of San Dieguito Art Guild's multi-talented artists who will have their artwork on display and for sale. Please note: some locations may not be disabled-friendly. Please, no pets.

Cheryl Ehlers and All That Jazz at the "E" 101 Gallery, Encinitas CA, APR 4 - MAY 13

April 4 - May 13, The E 101 Gallery located in the Encinitas 101 Main Street Association offices is located at 818 S. Coast Hwy 101, is presenting “All That Jazz”, a solo art exhibition by Artist, Cheryl Ehlers.

Her signature is bold and dynamic utilizing watercolor and acrylic mediums. Sharing a palette of vibrant color, her musical series has traveled to the Brubeck Institute and been hosted by the Villa Musica in San Diego. She is an award winning, published artist that paints in an array of styles; impressionism, contemporary and abstract art. Each piece is sparked by imagination and a passion for painting in the moment. Spontaneously, her emotions are reflected in the art that is eloquently executed. 

“Art, for me is a celebration of life, a way to create an appreciation for the simple joys that surrounds me,” states Cheryl.

An Artist Reception will be held on Thursday, May 1, 5:30-8:00pm and a percentage of the proceeds from the sales will be donated to support youth scholarships at The Stardust Arts. So stop in and visit me!

The Day in Photos at the 3rd Annual Encinitas Arts Festival 2014

The 3rd Annual Encinitas Arts Festival, was held Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the San Dieguito Academy Performing Arts Center.

The San Dieguito Academy Foundation partnered with the City of Encinitas to present the “PASSPORT TO THE ARTS FESTIVAL,” which featured performances and exhibits from all area schools, as well as professional performers and artists from the local arts community.

The Encinitas Arts Festival was funded in part by the City of Encinitas and the Mizel Family Foundation Community Grant Program. The day was filled with music, dancing, art, food and fun! Take a look at the photos at the link below.

Front Porch Gallery, a non-profit gallery in Carlsbad will be holding its annual juried exhibition and invites artists to participate. 

ELIGIBILITY

March 7 - Opening Reception - LUMINOUS, Light and Transparency on Paper with Nancy Walter | Greg Brown

Chance Meeting Spurs Creative Friendship

Walter and Brown will have their prints on display at the Civic Center Gallery from March 3 through April 16 in a show titled “LUMINOUS, Light and Transparency on Paper.”

 Opening reception will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 7  at the Gallery located at Encinitas City Hall, 505 S. Vulcan Ave., Encinitas, CA 92024.

Two printmakers met last year at an evening event at the Encinitas Library. Nancy Walter overheard Greg Brown talking about CYANOTYPES and asked if he would teach her how to make them. In exchange she offered to teach him how to make MONOTYPES, her specialty. They struck a deal, and an instant friendship was formed. Over several months they taught each other their respective printmaking processes, and found that sharing, co-creating and connecting through printmaking  energized their work.

“Our goals are the same,” says Nancy, “To produce visually striking images that draw the viewer in, using texture, transparency, and light. Although our goals are the same, our methods are quite different.”

MONOTYPES by Nancy Walter comprise half of the show. She has a background in graphic design, illustration, and photography. Creating monotypes requires acrylic printing plates, ink, brayers, brushes, stamps, stencils, and a 1500 lb. etching press. 

It is an exciting, and sometimes frustrating process. Generally the “successful” pieces occur from overlapping several images, working with different layers of color, transparency and texture but the results are hard to predict. It’s an intuitive process in which over-planning can lead to mishaps. With monotype, it’s best to avoid “overthinking” and allow for inner guidance take over.

Greg Brown, whose CYANOTYPES make up the other half of the exhibit, has a background in Architecture, solar energy design and music. Cyanotypes are named for the blue “cyan” images produced by their photosensitive chemicals. Making them requires watercolor paper, a photo emulsion, a dark work space, a variety of objects and transparencies, a large sheet of glass, a sunny day, a large tray of water, a spray nozzle, and a lot of imagination. It is an exciting, yet sometimes capricious process. An experienced printer can get exquisitely detailed photo prints using negative transparencies, but with objects set on the paper, freer compositions, and varying light conditions, there are always surprises. The results can be delicate, floating, mysterious, or other-worldly images, impossible to create in any other medium.

Printmaking partners, Greg and Nancy, have found that their chance connection through the common thread of art making has enriched their lives. It’s a deep experience discovering new artistic territory with another artist. They are grateful to the City of Encinitas Civic Arts Program for providing the opportunity to exhibit their work.

You are invited to be part of the 2014 ArtWalk! 

The ArtWalk at Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos is a monthly, outdoor art walk for fine artists, community art-based organizations as well as local aspiring art students. Fine artists are invited to participate in the monthly 2014 ArtWalk held on the first Sunday of each month, March-October, 2014 from 10:00am -2:00pm at the Old California Restaurant Row.

In an effort to bring you more foot traffic, the ArtWalk will now nestle between the Car Show and the Farmers Market! The new layout also offers more space for vendors with tents. On that note, for those of you who depended on the shade of the courtyard, I highly recommend picking up your own tent/umbrella for the 2014 event.

The other change to 2014 is that there will now be a $10 fee to set up. You will see the effects of this fee in more signage and more PR. The goal is to help drive more business your way!
