Calling All Artists: The “Berry” Best Poster Contest Has Arrived, Vista, CA

Calling All Artists: The “Berry” Best Poster Contest Has Arrived!

Vista, CA … Artists looking to demonstrate their good taste and delicious artistry need look no farther than the Vista Strawberry Festival Poster Contest sponsored for the fourth consecutive year by ArtBeat on Main Street Gallery and Wine Lounge, 330 Main Street, Vista. Contest guidelines are simple: art should reflect the “flavor and spirit” of the annual Strawberry Festival, which takes place this year on May 29, 2016. Information and applications are at http://artbeatonmainstreet.com/strawberry-poster-contest-info/.

The entry deadline is 5 pm on May 6, 2016. The top three pieces will be displayed at ArtBeat on May 20, 2016, when the winners will be announced and cash prizes ($250, first place; $175, second; $100, third; $25, people’s choice) awarded. The first-place artwork will be featured on the poster and collateral publicity for the 2017 Vista Strawberry Festival.

ArtBeat Owner Kait Matthews notes, “The Gallery has sponsored the poster contest since its inception. We enjoy giving back to the community, we are delighted that art is part of the Festival, and we love showcasing local artists.”

Vista resident Alice Picado’s “Strawberries on Main Street” poster of oversized luscious berries being delivered in an old-fashioned pickup truck to downtown Vista won the hearts of the judges in the inaugural poster contest and set the bar high for the annual display. Vista businessman John Alesi captured first place in 2014 with his droll, surrealistic “Straw Man.” Vistan Pamela Becraft’s 2015 first-place whimsical artwork decorates the this year’s advertisement.

Describing each of the three winning posters to date as uniquely delightful and very “Vista” in design, Matthews says, “This year, we hope to see many colorful depictions of the celebration, which harks back to Vista’s history as the self-proclaimed Strawberry Capital of the World.”

ArtBeat on Main Street co-op gallery and wine lounge is located at 330 Main Street in downtown Vista. It is open Tuesday–Saturday, 11:00am-9:30pm. To learn about gallery partnering opportunities, including space rentals, email info@artbeatonmainstreet.com.

About the Instructor, Char Cee
After After extensive study with many prominent artists in my native Southern California, Mexico, and abroad, I have blended combinations of styles into my own unique form of expression. I have explored various art mediums over the past 40 years, and feel that each has its own special qualities to be used for various effects.
An “on location” painter, I image the world around me into abstract plein-air paintings. My passionate ability to convey feelings and emotions into abstract landscapes, flowers, and people have made me one of the more interesting and innovative artists in San Diego.

My philosophy is that any art form should set off the viewer’s feelings that have been hidden away. With the wind in my hair and the sun on my face, the artwork takes its own course — driven by the environment.  Visit charcee.com for more information on the artist.
